A new type of synchronous reluctance motor with oriented silicon steel sheet

Synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) is simple in structure, stable and reliable. However, the torque and power factor are low. Under overload operation, the silicon steel sheet in the key position where the flux flows, such as the rotor magnetic bridge and stator tooth, will gradually become saturated, which will increase the heat of the motor and reduce the output torque. In this paper, a new type of synchronous reluctance motor (NSynRM) is presented. By adding oriented silicon steel sheet on the surface of the rotor magnetic bridge and replacing oriented silicon steel sheet on the stator tooth part, the problem of magnetic density saturation in the original motor is solved. Compared with the silicon steel sheet in the original motor, the oriented silicon steel sheet in the rolling direction has the characteristics of high magnetic permeability and high saturation magnetic density. Therefore, the magnetic flux can flow smoothly along the oriented silicon steel sheet in the rolling direction along the direction of the direct axis magnetic field in the NSynRM, and the anti-saturation ability of the motor can be increased. The calculation results show that the NSynRM has higher torque and power factor under the condition of overload operation, which can effectively reduce the temperature rise of armature winding and improve the energy utilization rate. The electromagnetic performance of the motor is calculated by finite element method (FEM).
